Childhood Dreams

It's September and it means a wonderful new theme over at AJJ and this time the theme is 'Back to School' hosted by the lovely Bluebeard and Elizabeth
I can see this being a fun month and I just hope I can behave myself and not get a detention!

My piece for this theme is all digital and the photo is probably about 1902-3 and contains my grandfather in class. Not certain I would have liked to been at school during these strict times.
The digital items are from a Daisytrail kit called 'Back to school' and items I digitally created myself.

And I am linking my second piece, which is also digital to TIOT where the current theme is children. Made with digital tubes collected over the years and the words are song lyrics. (don't laugh, but I use to dabble in song writing many moons ago)

Yesterday afternoon I had another play with some new Pebeo Dyna paints I got recently and have tried using them on a t-shirt that had 3 small splodges of white acrylic paint on. I used a DecorArt stencil and moved it around a few times to make it a bit more absract than it was. Fairly pleased for first attempt. I have a black t-shirt to try it on next which should hopefully show the paint better.

Now I know it's only September (and the sun is shining here and its hot again) but I'm also thinking about Christmas.
Last year I spent the end of November and half of December making things for my Steampunk themed tree the one with the steampunked butterfly on top. With Christmas cards etc to make, I'm planning ahead this year. I want to make some more decorations for the tree, and have just found some lovely felt snowflakes I'd forgotten I had that I got cheap in January.

But for now I'm off to lunch, Dave has spent the morning making bread and lunch is 'Beef Oxford'.

Thanks for stopping by today
Gill x

  2. Well, up till now you have behaved very well and won't be sent to the naughty step, where I spent a lot of time as a child! Love both of your journal pages, thanks for joining us again at AJJ and TIOT, much appreciated. Good idea to use the old school photo, I have been (mis)using a lot of my family photos for this challenge! Have fun with your steampunk tree embellishments! Hugs, Valerie

  3. Two wonderful pages - I love that you used a personal photo from your grandfather! Lovely!
Yes I would not have been a schoolkid at those times either.. I would not have lived in earlier times..I am just happy and call me lucky to be born in 63 .. I just had good times yet -- when I think about my grandparents and the people before... just wars - no.
You are so multitalented.. that's fantastic... songwriting---wow....super! The page is so lovely done!
Thanks a lot for an instantly idea for AJJ and thank you for joining us again at TioT as well!
How clever to make the splatters on the T-Shirt into a new design.. looks fabulous!
I did some fabric painting and sewing for a friend recently... much work for me...
she wanted little curtains and some other things for a little playhouse in their gardenthat my hubby recently renovated for her youngest granddaughter. I did my best...lol.. and she loves it- that makes me happy.
But Art Journaling is much more my thing!
Good luck and have fun with the steampunk decoration for the tree - I remember your fantastic tree -- what a super project!
The lunch sounds fantastic - you are a lucky woman to have such a chef cooker at home!! Great!

    Happy September Gill!

  4. Once again, I am in awe, total and complete awe, of your talents. I have no idea what a digital tube is, but I know your digital AJJ page is incredible. The way you used the photo from your grandfather makes it so special. Those do look like hard times, but at least the children were in school and learning to read and write.

Your lovely TioT entry amazes me even more. Songwriter, digital artist, storyteller, T shirt designer, and steampunk creator. What an amazing person you must be. Sounds to me like lunch must have been the only thing you didn't have a hand in for this post. BTW, I'm drooling over those rusty bits.

  6. Great use of that treasure of a school photo!
The lovely verse you wrote sums up the fragility and speed of life so sweetly.
You are wise to be thinking ahead to Christmas because it will be here before we know.
As long as you don't start singing Christmas carols in class in September I think you'll be alright ;-).
    Happy September (already!) oxo
p.s. great way to give your splodgey shirt a new artsy life too!!!

  8. I have had a super visit with you tonight Gill. The school photo was a fantastic idea to use for the theme, not sure I would have liked those desks either although ours were pretty uncomfortable and we had to sit up straight all the time.
The children's page looks magical, soft colours and images, the star is your song, I loved it.
Your shirt printing looks awesome, look forward to seeing the next one, its sounds like you are going to be very busy in the coming days.
Thank you for joining us all over at TioT's as well.

I think its fun to see the old school house and the kids from turn of last century. I bet you cherish that photo a lot. And I hope you show us photos of your steampunk tree come December.
