My first WOYWW

This is my first WOYWW or Whats on your workspace Wednesday #189
so welcome if you are visiting via Stamping Ground Blogspot and if not, well welcome anyway.
Hope you will have a little look around while here and maybe leave a comment.

I am a newish blogger, still learning and still have a number of varied projects to upload.

Well, what is on my workspace today? the answer is not that much (this time) as have been having a New Years tidy up and waiting for some canvases and gesso to arrive to start some canvases and this only arrived yesterday afternoon.

So what is on my workspace is just the beginning on a new adventure into canvas territory -
my first canvas... oooh!
Have a rough plan of a sort of altered art type of thing, but I haven't thought it through completely so will probably make it up as I go along.

I am starting on just a 6" x  6" canvas so I won't feel so bad if I mess it up and it ends up in the bin. I bought 10 of these small ones to start. And that size is probably better than if I'd used one of the very large ones of probably  24" x 18" that's been sitting unused on my shelf for about 18 months, gathering dust.
Thats a heck of a lot of space to fill - so for another day I think!
My altered art digi-scrap page
This is my digital scrap page and inspiration for my first canvas, and maybe..mmm?...maybe.. if its finished and turns out reasonably OK it may be somewhere on my workspace next time.
So I have printed out my decoupage ready to cut up, sorted out a few possible rubber stamps to stamp along the edges like in the original idea, but as yet, not given any thought to what medium to use to colour the images in.
The decoupage sheet I designed using Craft Artist software and a digi-kit called 'With Love' by Algera Designs.
Next: to sort out a nice butterfly stamp or two, some ribbon and maybe that wacky flying clock should actually be caged up... a birdcage die may be many ideas and not enough time...
so until (hopefully) next time I'll say...  T.I.N.W.O.R.M.S
what's that?  Tune In Next Week Or Regret Missing Stuff
have a good week and  happy crafting
Gill x

  1. Hello Gibby
Welcome to WOYWW today was my first post on there as well. Love your idea for the canvas looking forward to seeing it all put together. Looking down your previous posts you have some lovely stash. Happy WOYWW Mo x

  2. Just been having a nosey around your blog, and laughed over the 'stash hoarding'- I've been thinking the same, while sorting & organising!I have stuff I've hoarded for years- literally. I'm determined to actually use some of it this year. By the way, if you like steampunky-type embellishments, have a look at Riverside Beads. They don't only do beads, but all sorts of stuff like you have in your earlier pictures, I know, I bought loads when they were at the NEC last year, and they are not expensive either. Have a great week, Hugs Shaz xx#65

  3. What an Exciting project, Love your Ideas and looking forward to what you create x

  4. Hi again. You'll see on my Stampscapes page, I've not mastered the use of that pear shaped thing either! I either sponge or brayer. When I had a look at the tutorial on Kevins site, I realised it didn't help I'd been using it wrong! supposed to use it sideways on, I'd been using it end-on. But it takes so long to build up the colour, I just haven't got hours to shade in a colour, I'm afraid, so I'll stick with my sponging, I think.

  5. Oh it would be lovely to see your finished canvas on here. I love what you are taking your inspiration from what a lovely page.

  6. Look forward to seeing what you do with your canvas Hugs Pam x

  7. Hi Gibby and a warm welcome to the wonderful world of WOYWW! (How I love alliteration!!) Warning - you have entered dangerously addictive territory! I expect you are finding the same about blogging in general, too.

Love your work - the canvas is going to be awesome. There's something wonderful about mixed media and all the materials we have at our disposal these days, isn't there.

Thanks for your visit, and your very helpful comment. I've got CraftArtist and might have a go at splicing the 2 halves again when I get time. I love Serif software.

I uploaded the zentangle album page immediately after my WOYWW one, and like most of the others, you have missed the WOYWW post! Perhaps I'd better add a note to direct people downwards... Downwards into the chaos that was my ARTHaven until Wonderwoman (my home help) cleaned up all the mess for me this afternoon lol!!!

    Happy belated WOYWW,
    Shoshi #83

  8. Ooops! Sorry! Just found your second comment, Gibby! So you did find my WOYWW post after all! Thanks for your nice comment. Yes, my space is well used, although less well loved than it used to be because it's frustratingly difficult to organise. When we eventually move (under 18 months' time) I am hoping to be able to design my new ARTHaven from scratch and spread my wings a bit more!

  12. It is addictive you know! It is only my second week too, I have been watching from the sidelines for about a month and decided to take the plunge. I am sure you will enjoy it.

  13. Hi Gibby, welcome to WOYWW (I know I am late but I usually do this over 2 days). I am so intrigued as to how you will do your canvas (I have just done my first too) that I am now following you. The decoupage you are going to use is gorgeous so I have no doubt your canvas will be a beauty. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Anne x #35

  14. Welcome to WOYWW!! I just started last week, so we are both new.

I love that you are breaking in to doing canvases. I do a lot of mixed media and painting. If you have a chance check out my blog. You can find links to some of the things I have done on the blog, pinterest, or even a video I did under the video tutorial. Don't work about making mistakes. That is part of the learning process of what you like. Enjoy!!

Sorry I am 2 days late getting to your blog. I have been battling a nasty flu bug.

  15. Welcome to WOYWW-land! You'll find lots of encouragement and hugs here! Canvases are really fun! Don't trash bin it! Just repurpose it....I find gesso works wonders and the yucky stuff makes for cool texture under the gesso. :D (ssshhh our little secret) a late Happy WOYWW! Nan 113

  16. Looking forward to seeing the canvas - something I have never tried - - I am not sharing a desk as away from home looking after my friends cattery but enjoying having a good look around everyone else's desk

  17. TINWORMS - I like it. I look forward to seeing your finished canvas next week. :-)

  18. Hi gill
Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. I am leaving this message here on your blog and my blog so you know your messages are getting through.
Last week was only my second week of doing WOYWW and I have to say I am loving it.
Hope to catch up again soon and I will be looking out for your desk tomorrow.

  19. Hi Gill
I want to thank you for your lovely comment and let you know that your messages do come through ok. Great to hear from you.

  20. Hi Gibby. nice to meet you in blog land via WOYWW. Hope you enjoy the coming weeks on here and to be sure you will make lots of new friends.
Good luck with the canvases, they will turn out fine I am sure, under your guidance.
    BTW what is diesel punk?
Thanks for visiting me earlier, nice to have a new blogging friend.
Hugs, Neet (was I number seven?) xx

    1. Hi.. could have swore I replied but seems I haven't - ooops - re DieselPunk.. I don't get this as much as I do steampunk which is for the Victorian era..Dieselpunk I thought was suppose to be like 1903 onwards to about 1950ish, I googled it and there were different variations for time period.. so I guess Steampunk is futuristic using steam, cogs and that kind of thing and diesel and what was about at that time..I'd say the blinkie I've just made is Dieslepunk car but Steampunk winder/ you wished I'd never mentioned it now...he he... behind with last WOYWW too if you've got one I'll catch up asap... happy crafting Gill x (#82)

  21. It sounds like you have a great plan in mind for your first canvas. The good thing about working with this kind of media is that if you don't like it, you can use is as a background and/or gesso it up to start from scratch. Blessings!

  22. LOL! Loving your TINWORMS! Its exciting embarking on new things and you have a whole load of new going on here! #85
