50 shades of red

Another week flown by - hope you've had a good one.

Linda K  from HeARTfully inspired is the February guest host at AJJ and has the wonderful theme called 50 shades of red
The weather in the UK is pretty grey and miserable at present, so playing with this colour really warmed and cheered me up.

Using Craft Artist software I added the words and a few other digital elements and effects to the photo of my original journal page.  The digital elements are from a kit by Laitha's Designs called 'Craft Essentials' and the font is called 'Ransom'.
Below is the original page and I used mainly Derwent art bars and Stabillo all pencils for this. Some of the texture was rubbing the bars on the page with a Fiskars texture plate underneath.

Thanks for stopping by.
Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  1. Wonderful page, it has a lovely lightness about it and the way you have created the texture of colour in the background is beautiful, it looks like happy clouds are rolling in across you page! Happy Friday and have a great weekend! J :-)

  2. Adorable ! The sofness and this lovely magenta warms each heart for sure!
I love how you took your original beautiful painting and made it into such a great hybrid piece for Linda's RED theme over at AJJ! The font and all the digi additions are so clever ! Thank you very much for being with us again Gill!
and "Thank you" for all your nice comments on my blog!
I wish you a happy weekend!

  3. Your page is wonderful, and I LOVE the sentiment. Grey and cold over here, too, brrr, I've had enough of winter. I've been using some of your lovely bits and bobs already. Thanks again. Hugs, Valerie

  4. Brilliant page Gill, love the sentiment too. I'd forgotten all about the Derwent Artbars, thanks for the reminder ;)

  5. Beautiful and cheerful. I haven't tried those Derwent art bars. Are they water soluble or oiley?

    1. Hi June - they are water soluble - it says 'water-soluble wax bar' - not sure if that's the same as oil ( I thought wax has oil in it).

    2. They seem to be similar to neocolour 2. I love neocolour 1 and 2. Oil pastels ...I have the sennelier brand which are good...and also Derwent oil pastels! There are such a lot of interesting tools for art these days! Its wonderful but sometimes difficult to choose what to use! We had snow this morning!!

  6. Very happy and warm page Gill for this cold day with snow flurries.

Love the words tha you added to make the page complete

    Warm greetings from Chrissie xx

  7. I've never heard of Dertwent Artbars, but you achieved great texture by using that texture plate. The flowers are spectacular, too. Lovely shades of red and what appears to be a sunburst.

  8. such a pretty and bright page to brighten the spirit-and a lovely quote too. Thanks for joining in at AJJ!

  9. Love your digital additions to this beautiful page Gill, the original is wonderful as well. The bright flowers do cheer up these dull days.

  10. yes, we need warm colors against the grey coldness outside - and you made it beautiful warm with this journalpage! I like the original page also very much! Never heard about Derwent art bars, now I will look at google.
Wish you a lovely weekend! Rike xx

  11. I haven't a clue how you did this - I just know how much I like it. My journal pages turn out too dark - will keep trying but I can assure you there will be no digital elements. My computer hates me and I am not too sure I like him!!!!

  13. I somehow missed this wonderful piece Gill. The great quote is one of the best ever, and such a cheery spring flower with it. Makes me think spring. We finally had some nice warm weather today and had some melt, but still there's LOTS (too much) of snow around here. Hugs-Erika

  14. This is beautiful Gill I do like strong colours nd this flower stands out quote too.x
