New Year adventures week one

Hello.... A week gone from 2018 already - and I know it's early days but I did quite well doing some of the things that  I hope to achieve this year.  My digital page is a list of what I think would be achievable  and as the theme over at    AJJ  this month is 'New Year, New Adventures'  (hosted by Erika from BioArtGal ) I am linking to there.

The photography course book I have started to read is for 20 weeks
but as long as I have completed it by the end of the year I will be happy.

I hope I learn some skills to improve the quality of taking photos indoors as I had
awful trouble trying to photograph my white Steampunk tree and its coloured lights.

I was sad to take down all the Christmas trees and other bits as the lights
were lovely and cheerful and made me forget the grey wintry days outside.

I have been playing my keyboards again - but not this one,
this is the one I started decorating last year which needed more doing to it.

I used a mix of alcohol inks, black and white Posca paint pens and alcohol pens.

I always say I have a bit more confidence sewing after a little drink
but I'm not sure it works with painting ha ha.

First go painting people using that Hazel Soan book I had for Christmas.

And as for learning to sew (its on my list too)...I altered a waistband on my PJs - taking out elastic and machined it up with a cord instead. And for more sewing next, I hope to make one of those 'Travelers style journals' with a fabric cover, which may also come under learning a 'new craft'... My first attempt yesterday with a mini one of those was using craft foam and laminated paper but I don't think its very sturdy.

And finally..because the weather in the UK has been cold and grey and what with the dreadful flu virus going around, it makes me feel that I just want to stay inside and hibernate.
So for exercise - with the aid of some on line videos I have been learning to .. no laughing please!..... 'line dance' .... yes really!  ... something called 'the electric slide'.

Hope your new year and any new adventures are going well..
thanks for stopping by
Gill x

  2. You have had a fantastic week Gill.I love your goal page and think I need to make one-instead of a messy list in my calendar. :) I think you have such great goals for 2018. I look at goals as something we work on but don't have to complete-unless the goal is to complete something that is. We took our tree down this past weekend and it was sad to lose the light, but now that it is done I am happy it is finished and that sadness is gone. And also your keyboard still makes me very happy to see.:) Thanks for joining in with all your accomplishments! It's impressive. Hugs-Erika

  3. So much to look at! I love your decorated keyboard Gill, and your watercolour people look great to me. It's horrible taking down the Christmas Decs, so maybe we should start a January lights tradition! We need something to brighten up the gloomy days! :-)
Good luck with your new year plans.

  5. Looks like you are well on your way to achieving your goals already. I can't sew a straight line, so I am impressed that you repaired your pajamas. Your watercolor drawing is beautiful, too. I love that you play your music and altered that keyboard. And line dancing may be the icing on the cake. This is a fabulous first entry for Erika's theme at Art Journal Journey. SO glad you shared all this art and your goals with us at AJJ, dear Gill.

  6. How very interesting to read your plans for the year. I especially relate to the first one and my resolution is a bit more modest - to buy Christmas cards early in November and maybe make a small few before December. I'm with you on staying in and hibernating and agree that the Bad Flu going round is a great excuse. I like the way you've made your pretty page with the pictures on the left and the coloured squares, very attractive. I'm also intrigued by the Photography course and love that you can learn (and do) line-dancing on-line.
Yes, isn't it sad to see the decorations down and the tree(s) gone. your decorations are so lovely but they look a bit forlorn (like ours).
Painting a keyboard - that is amazing, I've never seen a painted keyboard (although I have now).
Looks like you will never be bored this year ever, and you've inspired me to think of new adventures.

  7. Your resolutions and list of what you want to achieve is full of interesting things, I especially smiled when I saw the one that said...learn to cook.
The photos were all great and your keyboards look amazing.
Good for you starting to line dance, it sounds fun.

  8. I love your list of things to achieve this year and wow, you have made such wonderful progress already! I love the photos of your tree that you took, the lighting and colours is beautiful! Those steampunk decorations are so stunning and I can understand why you don't want to take them down 😁. Last year I made some winter decorations that I can leave up over all of the winter months to brighten my seasonal window display - they really make me smile when I see them 😉. This year I plan to make a winter wreath that I can leave up all season too. Your keyboard looks amazing and I'm in awe of your people paintings - lovely! It looks like you are going to have so much fun in 2018, wishing you a very Happy New Year my friend! J 😊

  9. Hello Gill, I'm thrilled! What you have already started and trained this year... I find your keyboard keys phenomenal anyway. And despite your explanation, I still don't understand how you can paint so beautifully on keys.... And that the paint will stick to it.
Your pictures of people are so great, too. This seems to be a good book:), but I think you can paint better than you think yourself.
Actually, I found everything I read and saw amazing and beautiful. And dancing!! I don't laugh about it: It's wonderful!!
Now you really deserve a little hibernation! It can't be that much with the workload you have before you.....

  11. A very ambitious list, but a good investment in yourself, Gill. Love this post! Wonderful photos, sweet artwork (especially on that keyboard), and nice first book! Good luck with the electric slide.

  12. Oh my god, you have a lot of things on your to-do-list for this year! I would need years for all those things to do! I like your photos of the white Steampunk tree, especially the second, which comes out lilac. I like your beautiful keyboard paintings and your first figures of the Hazel Soan book, bravo! I looked at your first attempt of your 'Travelers style journals' and I don't laugh about line dance - it only reminds me to make more movements by myself.
    Liebe Grüße, Rike

  13. Hi Gil, thanks for popping over to my blog and for becoming my newest follower!!! I had to come over to see what you were up to for this new year and oh my gosh you are busy! I love your list for the new year... hmmm, I am still working my list out... I know, I know. I can't get over your painted keyboard, or should I say inked keyboard. It is absolutely lovely! I guess I should get my behind into gear and get my new year's list of goals made up... hugs for now from snowy New Hampshire
