I used Gouache, watercolours, acrylic inks, and Neocolour 2 water soluble pastels.
It started with a happy accident. Some time ago we bought some big bottles of cheap paint for Dave to use on his model railway scenery and I borrowed a red paint and painted my background page but I overlooked that it was gouache and water based. As soon as I realised my mistake I took advantage of that and used a stencil over the top with a baby wipe to remove some colour and to make a rock for the frog to sit on.
and then I added some random splodges of colour
more colour and some acrylic inks which were swirled about using some rubber ended shaper tools.
I have no idea what the proper name is for them but you can use them with pastels too.
Thought you might like to see a couple of photos of one of the train layouts. Art and crafts come in handy for model making, we made and painted all the cargo in the freight trucks.
Thanks for stopping by

Now this is what I call a colorful frog. It's a beauty and I love how you took us through each of the various stages of making the page. It's a genuine beauty, Gill, and I simply adore it. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey today.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! I love this fabulous frog with the white dots sitting on the rock, and the fantastic background! The steps how you created it are very interesting! Many different beautiful colors and tools - and therefore the picture has so much depth!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of the train layouts - much fine work for you and Dave :)
Thanks a lot for joining us again at Art Journal Journey, I appreciate it!
Liebe Grüße, Rike xx
I love frogs. He is a beauty! I also love that model train set.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful page with great techniques - the frog fits this background so well - like in nature where we nearly can't see them as they are so perfectly adapted to their surroundings. The model railway scene is beautiful! Good teamwork Gill!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for such a fabulous entry linked to Art Journal Journey!
Your support is much appreciated!
Happy rest of the week !

My cousin is into trains. So into trains he became an engineer driving trains. :) I always thought that was a really lucky thing doing what you love the most. I love seeing your husband's train layout because there is something magical about them and brings me back to childhood when I used to play with trains. And your frog piece is amazing. You did luck out being able to make the background so tropical feeling. Making a rock too. I am sure Mr. Froggie is very happy. And frogs mean spring, which can't get to my world soon enough. :) Hope all is well. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThose happy accidents are the best. I love your little frog Gill! Love the train layout too. It's so nice how you found a way to combine the two pursuits. <3

The train sets look amazing, you created such fabulous scenes! Thanks for your lovely comments on my blog - we had a grey and windy start to the day and then this afternoon blue skies and sunshine, but it's still so cold - brrrr! Wishing you a wonderful week! J 😊

great page love your froggie, great train set to ;O))
ReplyDeleteThat's a marvellous orange spotted frog on a fabulously made background and I like his rock too. How inventive you are to have made this, as I can see from the process shots. I am inspired to remember to record the process more often as it makes the finished artwork even more interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat was good to see Dave's railway as, when you mentioned the paints for his railway, I was thinking how nice it would be to see it.
Love this, although usually I do not like frogs at all! Loved seeing how this page was created! Chrisx
