I don’t know why, but I get afraid of messing things up before I’ve even tried something -
Well I did, but not anymore.
Several weeks back, when having a conversation with Dave about why I had not yet used some material I’d got to make a journal cover, he pointed out to me that if it went wrong, so what - I could always get more material and try again. It was so obvious really. Then I realised how often I spent too much time worrying about ruining a piece of paper etc etc. Well no more! - and if there are mistakes then so be it - I’ll deal with it!
Since then I have felt a new sense of freedom when being creative - thanks Dave :)
That said I was inspired by him to make this page.
Using an A5 piece of light yellow card I randomly added bright red paint and stuck on a quote I had written on to tissue paper.
And it says ‘Creativity takes courage’ along the top left side.
I used acrylic paint for the flowers and background. Also used a white Posca paint pen and a straw dipped in paint for the yellow circles.
All from me this time.
Thanks for stopping by :)
Gill x
This page is so so gorgeous Gill!!! I love the bright red colour of the background, it´s fabulous !! The flowers are wonderful, and love the quote too. Great !!

DeleteDave is just a wise man!
ReplyDeleteYou are a happy wife to have such a good mentor at hand!
I love your beautiful page and it is for sure the most difficult thing to let loose. In life - in education and in art! So lets get even looser - that is what makes us happy!
What a fanatstic page for your INSPIRED BY theme!
Thank you to Dave and to you!
Happy new week and happy belated birthday to your lovely hubby!
Happy Art Journal Journey, I have a lot of ideas already! I think I L O V E your theme and the AJJ- folk will do the same!
Hugs, Susi

ReplyDeleteIt is like you said Gill, but I still find it difficult to make mistakes. I have to let it go. I will remember this post 😀. Hugs, Lenie
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely, Gill!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to say that all your last paintings show that you have found your way and lost your fear of messing things up. Your pictures became so very expressive...
I think the time of reading books about how to do - and still don't start .... is over now (I'm not sure if this was an English sentence but I'm sure you will understand what I mean)
Best greatings to you and Dave who was that helpful!
Beate
Thanks Beate. I understood what you meant - you are right, instead of reading (and watching YT videos) I now need get down to more of the 'doing' xx
DeleteGill that is one of my favourite quotes. My Dave just like yours would say the same, its only paper.
ReplyDeleteAnyway your page looks gorgeous and I'm sure it made you feel happy creating it.
I love the colours and those lovely blooms.
Yvonne xx
p.s. The flowers you asked about on my post....it is a dwarf hydrangea bush that is spreading its branches slowly over the slabs on the patio, it is about 10years old now.
Thank Yvonne and thanks for the name of the plant - I shall look that up now xx
DeleteI'm glad you explained how you made this, because I would NEVER have guessed you started with a yellow background. I love the use of the straw for the circles. Use what you have, should also go on that beautiful entry. I certainly LOVE those flowers.
ReplyDeleteYou have a very wise husband, Gill. I think he knows you won't mess up, but he's giving you permission to do so. This is a wonderful entry for your theme at Art Journal Journey.
Your husband is a very wise man for sure. I love the quote, it is perfect for your inspiration today Gill. Beautiful flowers...I enjoyed your page a lot. :) Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteGill, You have created a fantastic, personal page inspired by Dave! What a great combination.
ReplyDeleteWish someone had told me that a long time ago. Even so, it is good to remember now.
Such great advice from your hubby! I love to experiment and try things out when I'm art journalling, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't ...lol 😉. The perfectionist in me would like everything to be just so but I have many "happy accidents" that actually improve the page ...lol 😀. So I have learnt to accept it and move on, if I really don't like it white gesso is my best friend ...lol! Your page is a beauty with the vibrant colours and I love the words you used too 😁. Wishing you a happy and creative week! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteI think Dave is a very inspiring and helpful person.
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers here, they look very helpful and encouraging.
I like Dave's words "if it went wrong, so what"! You found the best quote to this theme and your background and the flowers did not go wrong :))
ReplyDeleteIt's a very beautiful page!
Love this quote...and an understanding hubby is truly a gem!
