Inspired by a receipt for paints

I'm excited and honoured to be hosting at AJJ this month where I chose the theme 'Inspired by'

I am inspired by so many things I see, as well as people of course -  if I was to write a list, it would be never ending :)
My first page was inspired by a receipt for some art supplies - mainly water colours paints but I liked the list of all the beautiful colours on it - so paint and colour just had to be the theme for this piece.

I cut the receipt up just to show the list and stuck it on my A5 page and put a light coat of Gesso over it. Then with a water soluble pencil I drew my images using some of my supplies as a reference. I then painted them with watercolour paints and painted the rest of page with ‘Nougat’ and ‘ Sherbet’ Paperartsy chalk-acrylic paint. Next I outlined everything with a black Pilot pigment pen and finished with the words.

My A5 book is 130gsm cartridge paper so the added layer
of paper  helps makes the page a bit more sturdier.

you can just about see the words coming through,
sorry the photo doesn't show it very well.

What inspires you when creating?
Was it something you saw or heard, a song maybe,
or a book or your favourite place,
a favourite colour, a memory, a dream, another artist,
or an art product  or something else ?

I hope you will come join in this theme at AJJ
I look forward to seeing what inspires you.

thanks for stopping by today
and I look forward to visiting you very soon.
Gill x

  2. What an incredible first entry and on=one for Art Journal Journey's front page this month. What I love about your theme is, it is so open ended. I can assure you, I am definitely inspired by your incredible paints and subtle receipt. I am in awe of it, and look forward to you hosting this month at Art Journal Journey.

  3. Your painting is so utterly beautiful- your art supplies page just inspires me to instantly take out my paints now, or should I do a little bit of online shopping of art supplies now?! . Nobody is at home, hubby walked the dogs already as it will be too hot later for them to walk - so I have time for me....
Have fun Gill this month with hosting Art Journal Journey! I am sure you will inspire us a lot with your wonderful pieces! You are just a Mixed Media Queen using so many different products always. I so like those background you used here on this page! You turned an ordinary thing into pure beauty! Happy May, happy Art Journal Journey!
I am looking forward to seeing your ideas and how folk at AJJ gets inspired!
    Hugs, Susi

  6. GREAT - first your wonderful theme, and then your entry page for AJJ! What a cool idea! You used the receipt for some art supplies as your background - I can see the letters shining through the gesso! - and painted a gorgeous watercolour over that, completed with chalk-acrylic paint and a black pen! The quote is lovely and fits perfect to the page!
    Liebe Grüße, Rike xx
