Inspired by 'the seaside'

For my 'Inspired by' theme at AJJ where I asked what inspires you when creating.

I could sit by the sea all day long as there is always something to be inspired by, whether it be in the water, on the beach or along the seafront.
The sounds of the funfair on the pier and the smell of candyfloss and fish and chips remind me of happy seaside holidays when I was a child. Another favourite (when my teeth were stronger ha ha) was seaside rock, (the sweet variety) that was about 10" long, coloured pink with a white centre and with the name of the place going through the length of it and usually mint flavoured.

I started by covering my page with a soft looking seaside themed serviette (which on the whole has been lost under evrything) and I then randomly covered that with Paperartsy chalk acrylic paints and used a few stencil for added interest.

Using pencil and ruler I created the 'Rock frame' and then painted that pink and white and added my home town, readable only on top piece to make it look more authentic.

I drew/painted the star fish with watercolours and wrote the quote on paper and added colour and scribbly lines. Finished with some shadows on the 'Rock frame' using black Stabilo all pencil.

I love walking along our seafront or on the beach breathing the fresh air and listening to the water lapping on the shore and looking at all the seaside things like birds, boats, shells and the list goes on.

Everything seems more colourful and happy

I hope you will come join in this theme at AJJ
where already there are some amazing inspiring pages

Thank for stopping by

  3. What a fabulous page! I love the sea too and spend many happy hours walking on the beachfront 😁. Your rock frame is so clever and made me smile with the pretty soft pastel background and wonderful words. We have had sunny days here and I've been busy spending time with family the last few days. I hope you are having a lovely week and are enjoying some sunshine too! J 😊 x

  4. OH, WOW! I live in a land locked state, where getting to ay ocean would take at least 10 hours. You are SO lucky to live so close. Those memories you describe are so poignant and descriptive, I feel like I was there with you. It's a genuinely beautiful homage to the sea.

I'm really LOVING your theme for Art Journal Journey, Gill, and love seeing how you and others interpret it.

  8. I remember seaside rock now, thankfully I had forgotten it, ruinous to teeth in every way but somehow strangely necessary to a seaside holiday when we were children. I just love your painted sticks of rock and you have captured that peculiar rocky pink perfectly and even stamped "Clacto on sea" all the way through (I can see with my x-ray eyes).
It's a lovely sweet piece and again I like your words.

  13. I never heard about seaside rock, but you painted them wonderfully! I guess now they were candy sticks and only to buy on the seaside. I like your written quote and the watercolor star fish as well, the background fits perfect!
Your photos make me yearn for the sea and the shore and all the noise of waves!
